Dear Class,
A student asked that the MS grading process be clarified. It is the same process that was used in the fall.
-At the conclusion of the year the avg exam score and avg iClicker grade for each student is calculated.
The avg exam score (%) for a student is straight forward (see example below).
The avg iClicker grade (%) is calculated as such:
# of correctly answered questions
total number of graded questions – avg number of questions asked in a session
The subtraction on the bottom line allows you to miss a session during which an avg number of questions was asked, without penalty. The questions that you missed for an excused absence are also removed from the
bottom line.
-The proper weighting (for example: 90% of the grade comes from exam performance, and 10% comes from iClicker performance) is then applied to calculate a student’s final course %.
For example:
Exam 1 |
Exam 2 |
Exam Cumulative % Score |
Average % iClicker Grades |
Final % |
92.00% |
81.01% |
86.51% |
100.00% |
87.86% |
The final course avg (%) and SD (%) for the class is then calculated and the B+ curve (shown below) is applied.
Please stop by if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
