Thank you Dr. Jones, and a special thank you to the Master’s Class of 2018. It was a real pleasure for me teaching all of you this year. I want to note that Dr. Shah deserves a great deal of the credit for making our difficult course successful. Thanks also to my other faculty colleagues for their kind words and devotion to teaching. I feel that teaching awards are essentially interchangeable at this school!

Sincerely,

Subject: MS Program 2018 Teacher of the Year

Dear Middletown Community,

Please help me to congratulate Dr. Jeff Karpen, PhD as the 2018 Master’s Program Teacher of the Year.  The MS students chose Dr. Karpen to receive this honor and as a result he will have the privilege of leading the procession at the Master’s Graduation Ceremony on Monday, May 7th at the Paramount Theatre.

Notes left by the students when they placed their votes for this award reveal a deep appreciation for Dr. Karpen’s ability to present complex material in a way that is easier to understand, and to provide multiple examples to make sure the students get it.  As one student put it: “ We have had amazing professors throughout the year, but Dr. Karpen has really stood out.  He has helped me during this tough program by reminding me to keep an eye on my goals and what is to come in the future.  He has provided advice on aspects aside from Physiology when needed.  All in all, he is “Teacher of the Year Material.”

Dr. Karpen: you make us all very proud!  As a founding Department Chair and Course Director your leadership has helped this young campus and its students to be successful.  Congratulations on your retirement, but Darn! Yours are going to be hard shoes to fill.

Additionally, I would like to point out that this award selection process always reminds me that we have the absolute privilege of working at a school filled with superstar faculty that are not only experts in their fields, but are wonderful teachers, caring mentors and overall contributors to the mission of this school.  Thank you to all of the faculty for all that you do.

Sincerely,
